MAURO BASSO INTERVIEW

I.Art Artistic Director

Hi Mauro, what’s the inspiration behind this new "I.Art Hotel collection"? For this new collection we let the vibes of Milan run throught our veins: it’s an elegant and stimulating metropolitan context, with an international taste, but always soaked in the Made in Italy concept. I kept an eye on the colors and trends that we will see in the upcoming months, with the focus on creating a lifestyle series of images rather than just a hair collection.

Let’s talk about the technical choices of the collection? The characteristics of this collection are the shades or reflections. The goal was to reproduce in reality those colors and light effects that are usually created with photo editing programs such as Photoshop. Transparencies give the feel of the reflections. The idea was to have a very wearable color, but that was iridescent and fun at the same time. Some small detail that suddenly pops out. A ray of light in a room. A tattoo that can be glimpsed under a cuff with the cufflinks!
The main technique we used is the contouring, which is recommanded especially to the more expert colourists. This is derived from the make-up. Contouring consists in illuminating and/or darkening specific parts of the face, to visually modify the shape of the features. To reduce or underline specific features, enhance or correct them. In hair contouring, we applied the same principles to frame and define the shape of the face, through the color application. The technique requires the application of dark and/or light shades of color, or in contrast, to create transparencies and iridescent effects, made with shadows and lights through the hair, in order to enhance or soften some features of the face.

Hi Mauro, what was the inspiration for the Tempra launch collection? A new collection always challenges you with many questions. We have thought about art, pop art and street art. I worked thinking about Warhol, Kandinsky, Picasso.

On a technical point of view, what are the features of the collection? Contemporaneity mixes with versatility: these looks turn on and off volume, depending on how they are styled. Changing the position of the line make the color hide, waiting for a sun ray. The chosen technique is the color block. According to your personal taste, you can decide to position the blocks: on a quarter of the head; half head; on the central band; on the side band; on the rear one.
But your choice influence the result. You can explore between clear separations, wave separations, zigzag separations; semicircular separations; star shaped separations. There is no right and wrong: there is only skills and sense of art.
